World’s 100 Most Powerful Women

Forbes has a special report this week on the world’s 100 most powerful women. It makes for very interesting reading. Some of these amazing women are only just 40! Since I’m just three years away from that milestone, I feel like I somehow have a very long way to go.

The top 10 women are:

  1. Condoleezza Rice
  2. Wu Yi
  3. Yulia Tymoshenko
  4. Gloria Arroyo
  5. Margaret Whitman
  6. Anne Mulcahy
  7. Sallie Krawcheck
  8. Brenda Barnes
  9. Oprah Winfrey
  10. Melinda Gates

People claim that there is still a glass ceiling in many industries that prevents women from reaching the very top positions. These women clearly show that it is indeed possible.

  1. Remember that public acknowledgement isn’t the true indication of being a powerful woman. A true woman of power is one who is confident in herself. I think you rather fit that bill well, don’t you?

  2. Hi Kyra
I’ve never really been looking for “public” acknowledgement. I’m one of those people who always just wanted to be quietly competent. However, I do admire those people who are willing to be publicly competent and competitive. I find their successes and stories to be incredibly inspiring. I find that it adds some perspective and shows what is possible, even if it is not something that I would personally pursue. I guess you could say that I admire achievement and the pursuit of excellence in whatever venue that people choose.
