Feeling Geeky

I enjoy taking tests. I have no idea why. Perhaps it is because tests were the one area I excelled at as a child. I just don’t know. I love the silly ones I find on on other blogs like this one:

people with my name
in the U.S.A.

How many have your name?

I also like longer ones like the 400 question personality profile I completed over at Fun Education this morning. This one was interesting as it breaks the normal categories (such as extroversion vs. introversion) into many different subcategories.

It is no surprise to learn that I am generally introverted. What was interesting was to discover that while I’m not generally sociable I am most certainly more assertive than most other people. Clearly I still need to work on my friendliness. Sigh.

The agreeableness breakdown was somewhat illuminating. Empathy without sympathy. Tender but not nurturing. Huh? Actually I don’t disagree and certainly do feel the dichotomy but did not realize that there was a specific way to break down these traits.

The test finished up with an assessment of intellectual traits (not intellect per se but correlates). I’m weak in those "take time to smell the roses" or "imagine" ways.

The test also suggested careers (of 305 on their list) which would be a good fit. While careers in academia, science and business (as the CFO) did show up as excellent matches the best match was as an Insurance Underwriter. I most certainly did not expect that outcome.

  1. OK, I’m trying to take this 400 question one and it’s taking forever because it keeps shutting down (and asking the same question over and over in a different way, is there a scientific reason for doing that?)
But, you as an insurance writter?? No way. I can’t imagine you in anything BUT academia just as you are. 🙂 I was thinking about you this past week – about how you helped me out with the college stuff. I wanted to thank you again, just ’cause.

  2. Oh my. I just finished it, and it said my #1 job was in the Clergy – a preist or a nun. You have GOT to be kidding me. I’m low in friendliness too, by the way, and my husband took great joy in pointing out that I seem to be completely unstable, and then running from the room shouting that I should work on my impulse control. *rolling eyes* I’m making HIM take it next.
It DID say ” According to your profile, it looks like you would be best suited for a creative position.” So I feel it got something right… sorta. LOL this was fun though!

  3. Thanks Kyra. I was certainly surprised by some of the outcomes on your test. But um, clergy? That is funny and unimaginable.
