Tallahassee Business Resources

I am currently serving as the Executive Director of the Leon County Research and Development Authority (“the Authority”). The mission of the Authority is to work in partnership with Tallahassee Community College, Florida A & M University and Florida State University to:

  1. Promote scientific research and development activities; and,
  2. Foster economic development and broaden the economic base of Leon County

North West Florida (also known as the Big Bend) has many organizations, including the Authority, which directly or indirectly support the creation and growth of new high tech businesses.

These resources include (in alphabetical order):

  • Advanced Manufacturing Training Center at Tallahassee Community College Specialized Curriculum for Businesses; Incubator Space.
  • Big Bend Works Big Bend Works is a one-stop re-employment resource for state employees who work or live in the Greater Tallahassee eight-county region. Complete with six core focus areas, including job information, human services, training and re-training, career opportunities, unemployment and financial resources, this comprehensive site ensures state employees are connected to the information and tools needed for a seamless path and transition to re-employment.
  • Capital City Chamber of Commerce Helps small minority and women owned businesses succeed.
  • City of Tallahassee Office of Economic and Community Development Works to retain and expand local businesses, attract new and expanding businesses, and foster new enterprises with an emphasis on high technology companies.
  • Economic Development Council of Leon County/Tallahassee Entrepreneurial Excellence Program; Host quarterly roundtables and workshops for several industry sectors.
  • FAMU Small Business Development Center Helps businesses start and grow; serves the Greater Tallahassee eight county region; offers special courses for sustainability; launched a new Growth Acceleration Program to help small and medium sized businesses grow.
  • FAMU Office of Technology Transfer Licenses and commercializes Intellectual Property developed at Florida A & M University.
  • Florida’s Great Northwest Markets and brands the 16-county Northwest Florida region as a globally competitive location for business and to work with regional partners to recruit new jobs and investment throughout Northwest Florida.
  • FSU Office of Technology Transfer Licenses and commercializes Intellectual Property developed at Florida State University.
  • Great Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce Hosts an Annual Conference, workshops, and courses to enhance the business climate in Tallahassee.
  • Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship Cultivates, trains and inspires entrepreneurial leaders in the community through world-class education programs and curriculum, intensive consulting assistance and mentorship to entrepreneurs and business owners, leading-edge academic research and applied education and public recognition. Special Progams include: a Student Incubator; Consulting services; Roundtables for Clients.
  • Leon County Research and Development Authority/Innovation Park Promotes economic development and supports the Research and Development activities of Florida A & M University and Florida State University. Provides Scholarships for the Economic Development Council's Entrepreneurial Excellence Program. Technology Grant Program; Business Incubator.
  • Regus Executive Suites Regus operates over 1100 Business centers across 500 cities in 85 countries. A new office has just opened in downtown Tallahassee. Products and services include fully furnished, equipped and staffed offices, world-class business support services, meeting conference and training facilities and the largest network of public videoconference rooms all serving over 200,000 clients daily.
  • Silicon Tally Silicon Tally is an emerging Technology Incubator and mentoring program located in Railroad Square; emphasis on digital media.
  • Startup Round Startup Round is a networking group in Tallahassee formed to connect people interested in creating viable startups, investors that are interested in discovering new ideas, and college students with an intense interest in startups.
  • Summit East Summit East offers High Tech executive suites located on a “Smart Campus” North East of Tallahassee.
  • Sustainable Tallahassee Sustainable Tallahassee is a nonprofit organization formed to promote environmental stewardship and economic development through education and collaboration.
  • Tallahassee Business Resources Tallahassee Business Resources identifies and gathers essential details on all of the resources and organizations that provide financial assistance and/or business consulting to startup and established businesses in the greater Big Bend area. They provide business resource listings and educational materials for startup entrepreneurs and fledgling business owners. Tallahassee Business Resources facilitates connections between startup entrepreneurs and business owners with experienced businesspeople; thereby helping the entrepreneur grow their fledgling business, or take their commercially viable idea and make it a reality. By encouraging established business owners to advise new business owners, the program aims to foster entrepreneurship in the Tallahassee market.
  • Tallahassee Startup Weekend Startup Weekend is an intense 54 hour event which focuses on building a web or mobile application which could form the basis of a credible business over the course of a weekend. The weekend brings together people with different skillsets - primarily software developers, graphics designers and business people - to build applications and develop a commercial case around them.
  • TalTech Alliance The TalTech Alliance is a nonprofit alliance of businesses, academic centers, entrepreneurs and individuals invested in promoting technology-based entrepreneurship, business expansion and innovation in Tallahassee.
  • WORKFORCE Plus WORKFORCE plus provides comprehensive employment and workforce services. Partners closely with the Economic Development Council and Tallahassee Community College to connect businesses to trained workers. Helps coordinate retraining of displaced workers.
